Client Transformation: DD Mau

It’s always rewarding to see our clients grow and evolve over time.  One of the first few brands we worked with in the St. Louis area is DD Mau Vietnamese Eatery. We joined forces with DD Mau just about a year after they first opened, when they were still a very new, up-and-coming restaurant on the St. Louis food scene. 

Since then, the growth and development for DD Mau has been impressive, and we have been proud to play a major role in many of their new endeavors and accomplishments.  Today, we’re taking a look back at DD Mau’s evolution through the years, and how we helped them grow into the successful business they are today.

Locations

When DD Mau came on board as a client, they had a single location in Maryland Heights, MO. The growth and success they’ve experienced in the years since has allowed them to expand and serve more of the St. Louis area. DD Mau now has 2 brick-and-mortar locations (the original restaurant in Maryland Heights and a newer location in Webster Groves), offers online ordering, and was recently announced as a partner in the new STL CITYPARK soccer stadium, opening in 2023.

Menu

Geographic expansion is just one of the ways DD Mau has grown.  It has also long been a goal of owner Julie Truong to continuously expand DD Mau’s menu, offering more and more variety to customers. 

In particular, Julie was dedicated to offering more vegan and vegetarian options, which was something not many other local Vietnamese restaurants were doing. The vast majority of DD Mau’s entrees can be ordered to be vegan or vegetarian. They now have 5+ protein options and 5+ sauces/dressings that are vegan-friendly. 

Between Julie’s efforts in the kitchen and BYK’s marketing efforts, we have been able to position DD Mau as a leading vegan restaurant in St. Louis.  They have a loyal following of vegan and vegetarian fans, who have become some of their most outspoken supporters on social media. 

Another recent addition to the DD Mau menu has been boba tea.  With the additional space and equipment available at their Webster Groves location, DD Mau was able to begin serving a range of milk teas, fruit teas, and smoothies.  These beverages are the perfect complement to many of their traditional Vietnamese dishes!

Branding and More 

It isn’t just the physical changes like new locations and new menu items that have shaped DD Mau over the years.  One of the areas BYK has most directly helped DD Mau is by refining and developing their branding.  

Branding is essential to help customers recognize and remember a business.  If branding isn’t consistent, it can confuse potential customers.  Strong branding appeals to a brand’s target audience, captures their attention, and accurately expresses the ethos of a brand.  

DD Mau’s current logo, website, social media graphics, and other design elements were all dreamed up by our team. We knew we needed to find a way to portray the fun, lighthearted vibes of DD Mau without distracting from their main focus, which is serving fresh and fast Vietnamese eats in St. Louis. You can see a sampling below of the design work we’ve done to solidify DD Mau’s brand identity.

Awards and Recognition 

Our efforts and DD Mau’s incredible offerings have not gone unnoticed.  The media and local food scene have acknowledge DD Mau in a number of ways.  Their social media following has grown at a rapid pace: They now have nearly 6,000 Instagram followers and 4,000 Facebook fans. They were named to Ian Froeb’s 2022 STL 100, a compilation of the best 100 restaurants across the city, and have been written about multiple times in media outlets like Sauce Magazine, Feast Magazine, and STL Magazine.

As you can see, our journey with DD Mau has been a very fruitful and exciting one.  We continue to work regularly on innovative new ideas to enhance their digital marketing even more.  DD Mau has an impressive past and a bright future, which we are very excited to be a part of!
