So, You Want To Start A Podcast?

[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]It seems as if the number of podcasts out there have skyrocketed overnight. I don’t know about you but I always have a list of podcasts to get through each week. I like double tasking and it’s hard to do that while reading a book. Listening on the other hand is perfect for the busy body. Consuming knowledge while working out? Sounds good to me.

With podcasts on the rise, many creators are eager to jump on the bandwagon. Luckily, it’s a pretty easy process to get started, believe it or not. You probably have a lot of questions now. What equipment do I need? How do I record? How do I get on iTunes and Spotify? What about editing? Can I make money?

Like any business venture, you’re going to want to have a plan written out. Your podcast won’t be successful if you don’t have a vision in mind.

Let’s get those questions answered and make a game plan so you can start creating your very own podcast as soon as possible! [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Step #1: What are you going to talk about?

If you’re like me, you can talk for hours on end about what you’re passionate about. So, what’s your passion? Take that passion and create a theme out of it. Will you have special guests? What’s the overall mood you are going for? How much structure do you want? If you have those answers figured out, you’re off to a good start. It’s time to start recording. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Step #2: Where will I post it?

If you’re just starting out, Anchor is a great free app and website to start off with. Through it, you will be able to record, edit, and post. The best part? They do all the work for you! They will distribute your podcast to every platform people listen to podcasts on. Anchor also finds sponsors for you so you can get paid per listen! Pretty simple, right?[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”16″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Step #3: Plan it Out

Just like working out, consistency is key when it comes to podcasts. Create a schedule for your show and stick to it. Pick a day of the week so your listeners know when to expect a new episode. Keep a calendar to write down special guests, recording dates, topics, and whatever else you need to keep you on track. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Step #4: Prepare!

Don’t go into an episode with no game plan. If you plan on having a special guest, reach out to them weeks ahead of time. Be sure to supply them with an episode topic so they come prepared as well. There’s nothing worse than recording a podcast when you have no idea what to say. Take notes on your favorite podcasts. Take notice of the structure and what you like and dislike about it. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Step #5: Purchase Equipment

Getting started with a podcast does not have to be overly expensive. If you have a computer, microphone, headphones, and software, you’re good to go! Picking out a mic might be challenging if you don’t know too much about them. Search “podcast mic” on Amazon for a full selection. Read the reviews and compare them. Start simple. I don’t recommend dropping $1000 on a mic straightaway. If you’re using Anchor, don’t worry about the software! If not, you’re going to want some sort of editing software. Record as a voiceover in iMovie or Final Cut Pro and edit right there. You can also record through software like Adobe Audition and ProTools. Again, keep it simple while starting off before investing in something you don’t stick with. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
